Let's Get Ready to Write!
Please read the entirety of this page, as it contains important information regarding your written nomination.
All nominations are reviewed by the GSWCF's Volunteer Awards Council Team. This team is comprised of volunteers from across the council. They review each nomination and compare the information presented about the nominee with the criteria established for each award. Remember, those who read the nominations likely do not know the nominee, so the details you provide are vital to the decision making process. They only know what is presented in the nomination.
Please note, only valid nominations will be considered for review. All nominations submitted for a formal volunteer award must meet the following requirements:
- Nomination is not self-submitted
- Nomination is original in nature - this means it was not copied and pasted from another nomination or examples of nominations
- Comprises of at least 2 examples outlining the volunteer's service and impact
- The nomination is for a current GSWCF member with a current valid background check
Before you start, think why you believe the nominee should be recognized.
How has she/he gone above and beyond the position description? What sets them apart from other volunteers? What are the results of her/his efforts?
Jot down your ideas as you think about the individual, so that you can organize them to include all of the accomplishments. A strong nomination includes the following:
- Main Idea: A sentence or two to introduce the reader why you are nominating the volunteer.
- Evidence: A few sentences that explain and provide details on specific examples of the volunteer's actions. This makes your nomination stronger and clearly shows the reader what they have done that sets them apart and deserving of an award.
- Elaboration: This isn't required, but elaboration explains directly to the reader how your evidence supports your main idea. It gives you the opportunity to summarize why your nominee is deserving of an award, according to your evidence.
See an example of how to write a strong nomination using main ideas, evidence, and elaboration.
