  • Clear
  • Video

  • Media Girls are often the voices for our council by sharing how being a Girl Scout has affected them, what activities they’ve done in Girl Scouts, and why Girl Scouts is important.

Telling the Girl Scout story is important, and we want to make it as easy as possible to share it with those in the public. For that to happen, Media Girls need to be clear, concise and compelling spokespeople.

Please review the tips below and then record a short video (2-3 minutes) telling us why YOU should be a Media Girl.

    • Get Your Story Straight — Frame out your story beforehand by deciding on what key points you want to say in your video.
    • Know Where Your Story Will Go — Storytelling is a journey, so be sure to know where you want to end up before you start recording.
    • Keep it Fun - We want to see your personality and learn a little bit more about your Girl Scout experience, so keep things light, fun and Girl Scout-y
    • Stay Calm and Tell Your Story — Sometimes being on camera can be scary and sometimes we even get stage fright! That anxiety may make us lose our train of thought or make our voices sound shaky or insecure. Some things that can help you to not feel so nervous are to be prepared, take deep breaths, dress comfortably, and pretend you’re talking to a friend or a grown-up you trust.

A few suggestions on what to include:

    • Your name, troop and program level
    • Your favorite thing about Girl Scouts
    • Why someone should join Girl Scouts
    • Why you the perfect Girl Scout to represent GSWCF at events and in interviews

  • Photography

  • We want to see you smile!

Headshots (photos that are of your head and shoulders only like school photos) are often requested by the media to use along with a story. A less formal photo of you doing something you love about being a Girl Scout is a fun way for us to get to know you. We would like both! Please upload at least one headshot and one fun photo below.

Here are a few tips to taking a great headshot at home.

    • Keep the Background Simple - A solid colored wall or simple background works well.
    • Tilt Something - Try tilting your head slightly.
    • The EYES Have It - Make eye contact with the camera. We’re drawn to the eyes in the photos we see. Good eye contact with the camera helps the audience feel a connection with you.
    • Light It Up! - Lighting can make or break your photo. Harsh lighting (like overhead fluorescents or direct sunlight) can wash out your photo, but not enough lighting can make your photo too dark or blurry. The best lighting is natural light that’s soft and diffused (like indirect light coming in through a window). You’ll want to avoid shadows, too—you don’t want the shadow of a pole or tree cutting across your face.
    • Let Your True Self Shine - Use body language and a tone that shows your inner strength. Be your natural, incredible self!
