  • We want to make the process of telling us why the nominee is deserving of an award as easy as possible. No matter which option you choose, you will need to provide two examples of above and beyond service. There are a few ways you can submit a nomination:

    1. Written Free Response - This method allows you to submit your nomination using two free response boxes (one for each example). This option is recommended for those who feel comfortable writing a nomination independently or those who already have a nomination drafted.

    2. Written Prompt Response - This method allows you to submit your nomination by responding to two prompts from a provided list. This option is recommended for those that are not sure what they want to write about or need help with the writing process.

Example: Write about a time they made a difference for girls.

    3. Recorded Response - This method allows you to submit your nomination using a voice or video recording. This option is recommended for those who express their ideas better verbally or for Girl Scouts submitting a nomination.

This option is recommended for those who feel comfortable writing a nomination independently or those who already have a nomination drafted. Girl Scouts of West Central Florida recommends the following formula to make up a strong nomination. Feel free to write in paragraphs or in bullet form.

    • Main Idea: A sentence or two to introduce the reader why you are nominating the volunteer.
    • Evidence: A few sentences that explain and provide details on specific examples of the volunteer's actions. This makes your nomination stronger and clearly shows the reader what they have done that sets them apart and deserving of an award.
    • Elaboration: This isn't required, but elaboration explains directly to the reader how your evidence supports your main idea. It gives you the opportunity to summarize why your nominee is deserving of an award, according to your evidence.

See an example of how to write a strong nomination using main ideas, evidence, and elaboration.

    Prompts (Pick Two):

    1. What did they do that goes beyond what's expected of a volunteer in their role? Think of a specific time they stepped up, took on extra responsibility, or did something no one asked them to do.
    2. Tell us about a time they made a difference for girls. What happened, and what changed for the girls as a result? Examples include a girl who gained confidence, a program that might not have happened, or a problem that got solved.
    3. What challenge did they face, and how did they handle it? This could be a shortage of volunteers, a tough situation, a last-minute change, or a personal obstacle. What did they do?
    4. How much time and effort do they give? Share what you've seen, such as how long they've served, how often they show up, and what they do outside of regular meetings or events.
    5. Who else benefits from their service? Beyond their own troop or group, have they helped other volunteers, families, a service unit, or the wider community? How?
    6. What would be different if they weren't involved? Describe what would be missing or harder for girls, other volunteers, or Girl Scouts in your area.
    7. Is there anything else that shows how their service stands out? Examples might include a story, a moment, or something other people have said about them.
